Dortoni’s Bakery is one of many small businesses that were hit hard by the election of Donald Trump, and their owner is not happy.
“We had a huge loss of business, and we didn’t feel like we were being represented by the president, which was upsetting,” Dortoniam said.
“I was a vegan, I was a feminist, I went to the White House, I had a baby.
That was the big thing that was really upsetting to me.”
Trump, a self-described Republican, has previously praised the KKK, the KKK is the Ku Klux Klan, and white supremacists.
“You look at some of these white supremacists who have been coming into our country and have been radicalizing, and I think it’s very important to remember that it is not about race, it is about identity,” Trump said.
The president’s rhetoric has also been met with criticism from many groups, with members of the LGBTQ community and others denouncing the president for promoting a hate speech that is often directed towards minorities.
The Trump administration has also launched a review of policies that protect LGBTQ people from discrimination.
“This administration is not just going to ignore our concerns,” Dontre said.
But even if Trump is not personally targeting anyone at Dortons, the president has shown his support for businesses that are part of the LGBT community.
Last month, Trump signed a memorandum into law which gave LGBT groups the right to sue businesses if they discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
“It was very good to see that president-elect Trump is in favor of the same kind of protections for LGBT people that we already have,” Dantoni said.
But Dortoiams bakery is one business that Trump has not directly backed, and is working to ensure it will remain open.
“We have been in this business for a long time,” Dretney said.
She added that the company is going to continue to provide customer service and other services to the community that it serves, and that the business will continue to offer their bakery for people to enjoy.
And Dontrey said that they will continue working with the community, in particular transgender individuals, who are often the victims of discrimination.
“I think this is going be a big positive thing, because it’s going to be an opportunity to build a community,” Dertry said.
